Current Roster

OpTic Gaming is an American esports organization. Founded in the summer of 2006, OpTic Gaming also used to field teams in Counter Strike, Halo, Gears of War, Overwatch, and Dota 2. It currently only fields an OpTic branded roster in Call of Duty after its acquisition by Infinite Esports & Entertainment.

History

2018 Season

Spring Split

OpTic was one of four new franchises awarded a slot in the newly franchised LCS. For their inaugural split, they constructed a roster made up of former Phoenix1 top laner zig, former Echo Fox jungler Akaadian, European all-star mid laner PowerOfEvil, 2017 NA LCS Spring MVP Arrow, and veteran support LemonNation, with former French language shoutcaster Zaboutine as coach. Despite PowerOfEvil and Arrow's achievements, not much was expected of the OpTic team, as Arrow had a weak Summer Split following his MVP campaign and both LemonNation and zig were considered bottom of the table at their respective positions. These predictions came to fruition once the Spring Split began, as the team never seriously contended for a playoff spot or finished a week above a tie for seventh, though many of their early loses were close games and could have gone either way. Beginning in Week 6, zig was swapped out for OpTic Gaming Academy top laner Dhokla, but this failed to create any lasting change, and the team finished 5-13, in 9th place.

Summer Split

Immediately after the season ended, OpTic announced that zig and LemonNation would be leaving the team. To replace them, Dhokla was made the full-time starter in the top lane, and former Dignitas support Big also joined.

The summer season began disappointingly for OpTic. With Dhokla and academy top laner Allorim splitting time, the team only managed a 2-6 record over the first four weeks, which left them tied for last place. However, they completely reversed that total by going on a four-game winning streak to reach an even win/loss record and maintained that pace over the final three weeks of the season, ending up with a 9-9 record. Unfortunately, four other teams posted 10-8 records, so OpTic was left in seventh place, missing out on playoffs once again.

2019 Season

Spring Split

Entering 2019, OpTic retained Dhokla, Arrow, and Big, filling out the roster with veteran jungler Meteos and 2017 World Champion mid laner Crown. The team was plagued by personnel issues for the first two weeks of the spring season. Arrow was unable to play due to visa problems, and Meteos as well as Big were benched until Week 3 for unspecified disciplinary reasons. With academy players Dardoch, Asta, and Gate playing in their place, OpTic managed to push through a 2-2 record through the first two weeks. All of the intended starters began to play in Week 3, but the team immediately nosedived with four straight losses. Although they did recover and remained in the playoff picture until the final day of Week 9, OpTic never seriously challenged the top of the league and ended up in eighth with a 7-11 record.

Summer Split

OpTic made no roster changes during the midseason break and came out of the gate hot in the summer split, posting a 4-0 record over the first two weeks, albeit against weak opponents. Losses against frontrunners Team Liquid and Cloud9 in Week 3 brought OpTic back to earth, and they slowly drifted lower and lower in the standings, only managing four additional wins over the rest of the split. However, unlike the previous summer, OpTic's 8-10 record was good enough to force a three-way tiebreaker for the final playoff spot with Golden Guardians and 100 Thieves. OpTic rose to the challenge, beating both teams, and securing their first playoff spot as a franchise. OpTic's best season came to an end quickly after that as they were dispatched 3-0 by CLG in the playoff quarterfinals, ending up without enough championship points to play in the Regional Finals.

On June 12, it was announced that OpTic Gaming's parent company Infinite Esports & Entertainment had been acquired by Immortals Gaming Club, the parent company of former LCS team Immortals. In 2020, the LCS team overhauled their roster and rebranded to Immortals.[1][2]
